Dan Penn was a major force as a songwriter and producer for the southern soul sound that came out of Memphis and Muscle Shoals in the 2nd half of the 1960s.

For a real treat, you should track down a copy of Dan's 1994 album "Do Right Man", and listen to the writer sing his own songs... one of the greatest white soul singers if he'd only been willing to record himself more during his career.
