When I awoke this morning I expected to find you next to me, hair mussed and
eyes heavy with sleep. I expected to find your legs entangled with mine, your heart
beating in my chest, your breath running down your fingers, sending shivers down my
spine. I would wake first, as always, and lay there for a while, reveling in your warmth
and presence, my heart bared for you to see. You would wake slowly, light from the
sunrise glittering in your eyes, breathing in the morning with every yawn. We would
make eye contact. You would smile. I would smile. You would intertwine your hands
with mine and murmur love into my forehead, whisper inspiration into my skin, miracles
etched across my fingertips.

You are the smell of summer rain with the windows open.
